F.A.Q.

- In the state of Florida, you may operate a 50cc scooter with a regular car license - no special endorsement required.

- Any scooters or motorcycle above 50cc require a special motorcycle endorsement on your license to legally operate them on public roads.

- There are no Vespa or Piaggio scooters that require absolutely no license or registration, for the state of Florida.

No! To purchase and own a scooter over 50cc does not require a Motorcycle Endorsement. Your legal obligation is to have your Motorcycle Endorsement to operate your scooter on the public roads. We have many customers who purchase their desired model and color prior to obtaining their license. Purchasing before you take the class can allow you to make sure you're not waiting to receive your scooter once you are licensed. In addition, many of our customers use their scooter on private property to practice prior to taking the course.

No. Florida takes a unique approach to scooter insurance. Insurance is generally optional for scooters that are classified as motorcycles under Florida law. However, insurance and helmet requirements can vary depending on the type of scooter, engine size, and the rider's age.

At Moto City Florida, we encourage all scooter riders to wear a DOT-approved helmet and carry insurance.Even when insurance isn't required, coverage can help protect you financially in the event of an accident, theft, or damage. Scooter insurance is often surprisingly affordable, especially compared with automobile insurance in Florida.

Helmets may be optional for riders age 21 or older who meet Florida's medical insurance coverage requirements.Riders under the age of 21 are required to wear a DOT-approved helmet while operating a scooter or motorcycle on public roads.

Eye protection is required while riding.Florida riders must use approved eye protection when operating a scooter or motorcycle on public roads. This can include protective glasses, sunglasses, or a helmet equipped with a visor. For nighttime riding, clear or amber lenses are recommended.

At Moto City Florida, safety comes first.Regardless of whether a helmet is legally required, we strongly recommend wearing a DOT-approved helmet and proper eye protection every time you ride your scooter.

The top speed of a scooter can vary depending on several factors, including engine size, rider weight, whether you're carrying a passenger, road conditions, wind, and terrain. Here's a general guide to help you choose the right scooter for the way you plan to ride.

50cc Scooters: Most 50cc scooters have an approximate top speed of 35–40 mph. They're an affordable and easy-to-ride option for beginners, students, short commutes, and everyday transportation. They're especially well suited for local streets, downtown areas, neighborhoods, and South Florida beach communities where speed limits are generally lower.

Electric Scooters: Electric models are a great choice for riders looking for quiet, efficient, and economical transportation. Speed and range vary considerably depending on the model, motor, and battery configuration. Many are ideal for commuting, college campuses, downtown riding, and trips around the beach. Check the specifications of each model at Moto City Florida for its specific top speed and range.

150cc Scooters: For many riders, 150cc is the sweet spot. These scooters typically offer stronger acceleration and can reach approximately 50–60+ mph depending on the model. They're an excellent choice for riders who want the convenience of a scooter with enough power for longer commutes and faster city roads. A motorcycle endorsement may be required in Florida.

200cc–250cc Scooters: Stepping up to a 200cc or 250cc scooter gives you additional acceleration, higher cruising speeds, and better performance for longer trips. These models are a good choice for riders who regularly travel on faster roads, carry a passenger, or simply want more power and flexibility than a smaller scooter can provide.

300cc & Above: Larger scooters combine the convenience and comfort of a scooter with performance that approaches a motorcycle. Depending on the model, they can be capable of highway speeds and are better suited for longer-distance riding. Larger models may also provide more passenger room, storage, braking capability, and overall comfort.
